BREASTFEEDING PEER COUNSELOR
Part-Time (Hammond/East Chicago and Lake Station/Valparaiso)
General Statement of Duties: The primary function of the WIC Breastfeeding Peer Counselor is to promote breastfeeding within the community and the clinic in conjunction with outreach activities of the WIC Program. The Peer Counselor recruits and counsels WIC prenatal and nursing mothers as well as provides breastfeeding support and education for new mothers.
Qualifications: Candidate should be a current or previous breastfeeding mother with a minimum of 6 months of breastfeeding experience. Willing to successfully complete WIC Peer Counselor training. Must have reliable transportation. Must have internet access at home. Basic knowledge of clerical work (filing, data entry, telephone etiquette, etc.) required. Have excellent writing/editing and verbal communication skills. Self-starter, able to work independently, service oriented with attention to detail. Being bilingual is a plus at some locations.
