A Multi-Site Area Agency on Aging and Community Action Agency serving Northwest Indiana since 1965 is currently seeking experienced employees for the following position
Housing Quality Standard (HQS) Inspector
General Statement of Duties
The HQS Inspector is responsible for performing initial and annual inspections of housing units for the Housing Choice Voucher Program (HCVP) in accordance with federal, state, and local building codes; and U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Housing Quality Standards (HQS) requirements, including identification of potential lead hazards.
The HQS Inspector performs re-inspections of previously failed units and follows up on complaints to ensure compliance with building codes and HQS. Prepares certification documentation for rent reasonableness calculations on all housing units inspected. Assists the HCVP Supervisor in gathering rent data for updating rent reasonableness database. Completes inspections checklists and documents HQS violations using state software.
Qualifications
· A HS diploma or GED required
· Two years experience in building trade preferred
· Housing Specialist Certification preferred
· Housing Quality Standards certification preferred
· Excellent analytical skills.
· Effective communication skills with team members, clients, service providers and public.
· Understanding of low-income client populations
· Preferred knowledge of federal low-income housing program
· Vocational training in carpentry, plumbing, electrical, or related building trades preferred
