Northern Indiana Construction Company seeks a full time General Construction Laborer.
Job duties involve: physical labor at building and heavy construction projects, excavations, demolition sites, and bridge construction projects. May operate hand and power tools of all types: air hammers, earth tampers, cement mixers, small mechanical hoists, surveying and measuring equipment, and a variety of other equipment and instruments. May clean and prepare sites, dig trenches, set braces to support the sides of excavations, erect scaffolding, and clean up rubble and debris. May assist other craft workers. General construction laborers must have physical strength, hand-eye coordination, endurance, and safe work habits.
Laborers must have good work attendance and be able to concentrate on their tasks. The ability to understand and communicate information is also essential. Skills in concrete construction, carpentry, and the ability to communicate in both English and Spanish can help general laborers advance in their position. There are no minimum educational requirements to be a general laborer, but laborers who have specialized skills have the best opportunities. Those who serve a formal apprenticeship must generally be at least 18 years old and have a high school diploma or its equivalent.
