The Radiologic Technologist works under the supervision of the Administrative Supervisor and/or Director, and arranges patients in a safe and efficient manner for radiological examinations, produces radiographs (x-rays) to aid in the diagnosis of medical problems.
Responsibilities and Qualifications
Patient assessment is managed by using the appropriate policy, protocols and standards of practice. Evaluates the appropriate orders, documents, contrast and patient responses before, during and after the imagining procedure. Interprets and initiates appropriate actions to changes in patient condition and monitoring data. Recognizes limitations and seeks additional assistance if necessary. Works with a high degree of organization, moves independently and efficiently from procedure to procedure and coordinates with other areas to ensure smooth patient flow.
Exhibits clinical expertise by demonstrating or developing proficiency in performing and/or assisting in procedures according to policy and procedures on all equipment in all areas of Diagnostic Imaging, including all computed radiography and digital radiography equipment. Proficient at venipuncture. Ensures limited exposure to ionizing radiation to self, patient, and other staff.
Provides patient education by assessing and utilizing methods based on the patient and significant other's knowledge base, communication skills, developmental age, ability and readiness to learn.
Documentation is provided by ensuring that the order for procedure, contrast order, consent and appropriate screening documentation is completed accurately and in a timely manner, while working with a high degree of organization to record and resolve problems, and follow through on any outstanding issues. Ensures that the information is legible, concise, accurate, objective and timely, while meeting hospital standards.
Leadership is provided by participating in the PI process and identifying opportunities to improve patient care delivery, including collecting data, monitoring and implementing changes. Enhances the learning opportunities to other staff, and by effectively contributing to the orientation of team members and students.
Provides assistance by verifying patient data and exam ordered to ascertain accuracy, resolve any QA issues, move or delete images when warranted/requested, scan needed documents into patient folder, review images, and verify all are ready for the Radiologist to view as needed in a timely manner.
Works with physicians on PACS.Qualifications:Because you're committed to excellence, you understand the importance of being properly prepared for your role at Mercy. That's why you'll bring to your role the right set of qualifications: Education: Secondary and some post-secondary. Graduate of an accredited Radiological Technologist program or 6 months of graduation of an accredited Radiological Technologist program.
Licensure: ARRT Registered in Radiography, or if new graduate registry eligible.
Experience:
Certifications: BLS Basic Life Support Within 3 Months Of Hire.
Other: Excellent communication, analytical and organizational skills are required, and must be familiar with a variety of the field's concepts, practices, and procedures. Operate various types of office equipment, including a computer, fax machine, telephone, printer and copy machine.
