The Laboratory Assistant performs routine laboratory analyses, phlebotomy, and processes specimens accurately, precisely, timely, and efficiently through the proper use of facilities, supplies, equipment and resources. Lab Assistant will be responsible for waived and moderate complexity testing as well as acquisition of all required types of specimens for laboratory testing. Performs related duties as assigned. Responsibilities and Qualifications
1Financial PerformanceDemonstrates stewardship of resources in regards to inventory, time management, and meeting productivity standards5 2Operational EffectivenessPerforms all assigned routine and Moderate complex laboratory analyses correctly as stated in procedure manuals; responsible for the recognition and correction of errorsAccurately performs and records quality control, calibration, and instrument maintenance under supervisionOrganizes, prioritizes and completes work to achieve defined turnaround times and expectationsConsults appropriate personnel regarding problems or unexpected test results, in a timely mannerDocuments and communicates to appropriate stakeholdersCompletes incidence reports as necessaryRemains current in department policies and proceduresCommunicates professionally and effectively with co-workers, other healthcare professionals, vendors and the publicDemonstrates appropriate use of information systems(HIS, LIS, software, internet, etc.)Performs the acquisition, labeling, and transfer of all required types of specimens for laboratory testing: utilizing accurate, effective, professional, and confidential accepted methodologies as requiredPerforms all tasks associated with processing, transfer and referral of required laboratory specimens in accordance with applicable regulatory standards and departmental policies as required 50 3Workplace ExcellenceComplies with laboratory management requests to meet staffing plans and department needsDemonstrates initiative to assist the laboratory in all areasWorks collaboratively with all co-workers to accomplish laboratory, department, or hospital goalsAttends departmental, laboratory and hospital meetings as requiredParticipates in the training of coworkers as requestedMaintains inventory control of reagents , parts and supplies 30 4QualityReviews quality control and consults with appropriate personnel, in accordance with the quality planDocuments findings and notifies appropriate personnelDemonstrates and documents competency in areas of assigned responsibilityReviews, evaluates and correlates laboratory results before releasing and reporting according to policies and proceduresCommunicates and documents critical information according to policies and proceduresRecognizes, identifies and notifies appropriate personnel concerning opportunities for process improvementEnsures quality and integrity of specimens prior to testingParticipates in proficiency testingParticipates in Quality ImprovementComplies with all health and safety regulations and requirementsComplies with all hospital and laboratory policies and proceduresComplies with all accreditation standardsParticipates in collection of process improvement dataDemonstrates less than 3 errors, resulting in chart revision, in a continuous 12 month period 10 5Continuing EducationAccumulates a minimum of 10 CE i. Accepted CEU1. Educational programs such webinars, on-line education, conferences, classes, etc.a. Programs must be related to medical laboratory science or provide education acceptable for acquisition of a position available at the hospitalb. A certificate of attendance or other documentation of completion is required2. Other developmental opportunitiesMust be approved by laboratory management prior to commencementLaboratory management will determine CEU award.b. Licensure: Experience:1 year acceptable clinical laboratory experience Certification/Registration: One year Laboratory experience and Associates degree in Chemical, physical or biological science or 24 hours of College science courses. Other Skills & Knowledge:(skills, knowledge, abilities) Education:Associates degree in Chemical, physical or biological science or 24 hours of science courses Licensure: Experience:1 year acceptable clinical laboratory experience Certification/Registration: One year Laboratory experience and Associates degree in Chemical, physical or biological science or 24 hours of College science courses.
