The EEG/EKG Technician works under the supervision of the Director and performs Electroencephalogram (EEG), Visual Evoked Potential (VEP), Somatosensory Evoked Potentials (SEP), Electrocardiogram (EKG), Holter Monitor hook-up and scanning. Signal Averaged EKG (SAECG) and Stress Testing. Responsible for charging, logging and archiving of procedures. May be assigned additional duties as needed.
Responsibilities and Qualifications
Performs Cardiac and Neurological Procedures: Performs Electroencephalogram (EEG), Visual Evoked Potential (VEP), Somatosensory Evoked Potential (SEP) as ordered by a physician. Performs Electrocardiogram, SAECG, Exercise Tolerance/Pharmacological StressTest, Holter Monitor hookup and scanning as ordered by a physician. Performs all patient procedures in a professional manner and practices compassionate care. Recognizes emergency patient care situations and promptly provides correct response.
Excellent Customer Service: Performs reception activities courteously. Responds to patient and visitor inquiries promptly and provides information as possible while maintaining confidentiality of information as required. Answers phone in a timely manner and occasionally schedules procedures. Communicates with others in a professional manner while maintaining a compassionate care attitude. Assesses the needs of patients according to established standards of care.
Documentation and Clerical Duties: Operates office equipment, phone system and computer properly. Performs performing a variety of general office activities, i.e., copying, filing, and charting. Generates appropriate procedure charges/credits to patient accounts. Audits daily revenue sheets for accuracy and adjusts patient account charges when needed.
Work Organization: Organizes daily and weekly work activities to ensure their completion in a timely manner. Coordinates department services with various other departments. Utilizes downtime to maintain a clean and orderly work area.
Equipment and Supply Management: Ensures proper function and cleanliness of all equipment. Cleans and disinfects TEE probes with glutaraldehyde, following manufacturer's guidelines and hospital policy. Notifies Biomed, Coordinator and other staff of any machine malfunctions in a timely manner. Ensures that adequate supply levels are available and notifies Admin Assistant if products need to be ordered.
Leadership: Directs and coordinates assignments and care given by team members based on staff competencies, experience and daily assignment. Participates in the PI process and identifies opportunities to improve patient care delivery, including collecting data, monitoring and implementing changes. Enhances learning opportunities to other staff and effectively contributes to the orientation of new team members and students. Experience: Less than one year.
Certifications: BLS Basic Life Support Within 3 Months Of Hire. Basic Arrythmia course Within 6 Months Of Hire.
Other: Excellent communication, analytical and organizational skills. The ability to relate testing knowledge and theory to EEG and EKG procedures and equipment and to interpret results and isolate the most accurate readings are essential. Able to operate various office equipment, including a computer, fax machine, printer.
Preferred Education: Completion of EKG and EEG training courses/seminars.
